Ali Baba talks about the lack of maintenance culture in Nigeria

Ali Baba spoke the truth in this post he wrote on his IG account about the maintenance culture in Nigeria. Please read.
One thing that will continue to cost us money in Nigeria is the absence of MAINTENANCE CULTURE. We do not have the habit of building for the future. In other words, out developments are not anticipatory. We do not build roads by factoring in that traffic will grow.
We do not build schools that take into consideration the number of students in 5, 10 or 15yrs. Our hospitals can not handle the number of patients that are wheeled in. Our sports facilities only get attention when a sporting tournament is coming our way. We can not prepare for an Olympics meet... Even with a 4 year advance notice. We know pensions will be paid, but wait until the people protest before something is done. Yet when money is budgeted for a certain project, people will sit in a living room, divert it to achieve political power. Okay... Think about it, how long ago was Onitsha Bridge built? 1964-1965. By the Dumez group. The department of statistics had the number of vehicles that used Onitsha bridge in 1973 as 200 every month. And back then, vehicles were a rarity. Now you can have 600 motionless vehicles on the bridge, in one position, for as long as 2 hours. Has the government thought it urgent to build another bridge since. Interestingly, the same amount that is spent on an election or stolen in the name of prosecuting a war, can build the bridge. How long did it take Fashola to build Lekki/ IKOYI bridge? Go to London and see how they patch their roads. As soon as they see a pot hole, it's fixed. A stitch in time saves 9!!! But in Nigeria we don have a maintenance culture. We wait till it is totally bad and starts to inconvenience everybody to do something. That is what brought Calabar/UYO expressway to where people express wailing! If you care for what you have people will not know how long you have had it. Because it will be in top shape.

5 ISIS child executioners shoot 5 Kurd prisoners each in the head in Syria

A chilling new video from ISIS shows a British boy and four other young children executing prisoners in cold blood in Syria. The grotesque nine-minute video was supposedly recorded recently in the ISIS capital of Raqqa, in Syria. The video shows five boys - believed to be from Britain, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and Uzbekistan, holding handguns and wearing the desert camouflage.
One of the boys screamed something in Arabic and slapped one of the terrified captives who was kneeling down in front of him, on his shaved head before they raised their guns and killed the five men, 'atheist' Kurdish fighters who were captured during a battle.

According to The Sun, the British boy was identified only as Abu Abdullah al-Britani. He is white, blue-eyed and about 12 years old.

Abu means 'Son of' in Arabic, which suggests the boy may be the son of Abdullah al-Britani, a young British jihadist who got married in Syria and was killed in a drone strike.

The Times reports that one of the boys said in Arabic:
'No one can save the Kurds even with the support of America, France, Britain, Germany, the devils in hell.' He then calls for the takbir and the other boys shout in unison - Allahu Akbar (God is Great) before raising their pistols to the sky and shooting the prisoners. Their bodies are later shown with bullet wounds to their heads.

The age of criminal responsibility in Britain is 10 years, so if the boy is captured and sent back to Britain to face justice he could be prosecuted for murder.

France's top court overturns burkini ban

France's top administrative court on Friday overturned a ban on burkinis in a Mediterranean beach resort, effectively overturning the bans on the swimsuits that have divided the country.
The ruling by the Council of State specifically concerns a ban on the Muslim garment in the Riviera town of Villeneuve-Loubet, but the binding decision is expected to impact all the 30 or so French resort municipalities that have issued similar decrees.

The bans grew increasingly controversial as images circulated online of some Muslim women being ordered to remove body-concealing garments on French Riviera beaches.
Lawyers for a human rights group and a Muslim collective challenged the legality of the ban to the top court, saying the orders infringe basic freedoms and that mayors have overstepped their powers by telling women what to wear on beaches.

Mayors had cited multiple reasons for the bans, including security after a string of Islamic extremist attacks, risk to public order, and France's strict rules on secularism in public life. The Council of State ruled that,
"The emotion and concerns arising from the terrorist attacks, notably the one perpetrated in Nice on July 14, cannot suffice to justify in law the contested prohibition measure."
As the authorities in resorts such as Nice and Cannes have proved, they argued, the ban was being used to discriminate against Muslim women, no matter what they were wearing.

Death of Nigerian social worker at a sex party in the UK ruled as accident

The death of 35-year-old Nigerian social worker who died at a James Bond-themed swingers party after he told his friend he was attending an evening church service has been ruled as an accident on Thursday, August 25th, 2016 at Herts Coroner's Court. Edmund Echukwu, who was born in Nigeria and lived at Springwood Crescent in Edgware, attended the swingers party at Littlecroft on Theobald Street in Radlett but later died after he was pulled from the bottom of a swimming pool in the early hours of March 28 2015.
The father of three told an organiser he had attended before but it was actually his first time. Richard Stanley and Janet Harrison, who own Radlett Parties, organise a monthly party at their home and Mr Echukwu had called on the Thursday (March 26) beforehand to enquire about attending.

In evidence submitted to the inquest at Herts Coroner’s Court, Janet Harrison said: "He said he wanted to make new friends and try new things. He sounded lonely and I felt a little sorry for him."

The inquest heard that Mr Echukwu was one of the later party guests to arrive and met another guest, known only to the court as Rachael, on the dance floor. When giving evidence, Rachael told the court that she thought he did not appear drunk and was very polite.
The pair then went to Rachael’s car to collect her towel and entered the pool together; Rachael with two floats as she could not swim ‘very well’. It was when they entered the deep part of the swimming pool that Mr Echukwu suddenly ‘grabbed’ her neck and she ‘wriggled’ away and went to the side of the pool.
"He was by my side and this part of the pool is very deep. I couldn't touch the bottom. He just grabbed my neck and pulled me under the water. I had to push him away because I feared he would drown me and pull me under."
The court heard that herself and two other men at the scene saw Mr Echukwu wave his hands above the water and soon became concerned. She told the court that another party-goer said :
"He’s been under way too long."

The two men ran to get someone to help rescue Mr Echukwu and several minutes later Richard Stanley arrived and dived into the pool.

In his evidence submitted to the court, Mr Stanley said:
'I saw a black man lying on the bottom of the pool."
CPR was performed on Mr Echukwu by various guests and an ambulance was called. Mr Echukwu was taken to Watford General and pronounced dead at 1.38am. There was a dispute as to whether Mr Echukwu could swim as he told Rachael he had been swimming with his two-year-old son recently, but his estranged partner, and mother of his two other children, told the police that he did not.

His friend, Anthony Okonkuwo, also submitted evidence which described how he knew Mr Echukwu and the events leading up to his death. In the statement he said that Mr Echukwu had seemed ‘stressed’ due to his immigration status and they had watched a football match together that day. Mr Echukwu then told him he was going to attend an evening mass at their church.

In evidence Det Con Robert Wood said that a number of the guests left the scene and many of those who remained gave false contact information.

A post-mortem found that the alcohol in his system was only slightly above the drink-driving limit at 81mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Senior coroner Geoffrey Sullivan said that he could not be sure that Mr Echukwu could not swim and recorded a verdict of accidental death, giving the cause of death as immersion and minor alcohol intoxication. The coroner added:
"It was the result of a sad accident. It was the result of an unfortunate accident. He appeared to be playing around in the pool but went under the water and did not re-surface."

Mum drowns saving her two-year-old son who fell off their boat in Utah lake

A 33-year-old mother, Chelsey J. Russell of Lakewood Colorado, died while rescuing her two-year-old son who had fallen into Lake Powell, Utah, from a boat they were travelling in. The whole family was out boating on the landmark lake when the 2 year old boy fell overboard. Chelsey jumped in after him to save him from drowning while other family members tried to stop the houseboat they were in and turn it around to pick both of them up.

Although the entire ordeal lasted just a few minutes, by the the time family members had reached the mother and son, Chelsey was unconscious. Neither she nor her son had been wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
Miraculously, she had managed to place her son on her chest with the little boy's head was above the waterline and he was able to breathe.

Eventually Chelsey and her son were pulled back into the boat, at which point family members began performing CPR on her.  The family reached the shore a short time later where attempts to resuscitate Chelsey continued, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office gave a little further explanation as to why it took so long for the family to turn their boat around and pick Chelsey and the boy up.
"A significant distance developed between the mother and child and the houseboat before the houseboat could be shut down', a report posted to social media stated.

Deputies said a Chelsey's brother then untied a smaller boat being towed by the houseboat in an attempt to reach the pair of them faster but by that time Chelsey was completely under the water.  She was able to hold her son above water long enough for him to be rescued.xx The two-year-boy son was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Flagstaff, Arizona, but has now been released.

The doting mother worked as a lawyer in Denver. The firm posted a statement in memory of Russell on its website Thursday: 'Chelsey was an amazing mother, an exceptional legal talent, an extraordinary athlete, a loyal and generous friend, and left us all better for knowing her. She is sorely missed.' The law firm's page about Chelsey states: 'Ms. Russell was born and raised in Denver. After graduating with a BSBA in General Business from the University of Denver, she worked her way from land associate to landman for a local oil and gas exploration and development company.
